The Archdevils are the most powerful demons living in the hell planes. During the War in Heaven, they were the generals who attempted to take over the Upper Planes and attain control over the fates of all species in the mutliverse. Their leader, Asmodeus, signed the Pax Primeval, allowing the Archdevils to rule over the hell planes and punish damned souls.
Since their exile, they have discovered passageways to the material planes, allowing them to contact material beings with similar aspirations. The Archdevils would offer these clients great power in exchange for creating fear and misery among other beings. Asmodeus became convinced that if they collected enough negative energy, this would allow them to break out of the hell planes and conquer the mutliverse. If these clients were successful, they would join the Inner Circle, the Archdevil's top league of agents.
