The Skywalker family was perhaps the most influential family during the period after the fall of the First Galactic Empire (approximately 330,000 BCE). Its founder was Anakin Skywalker, who was trained as a Jedi and became a Sith Lord apprentice under the name of Darth Vader. Skywalker's descendants, due to their strong Force powers, were able to leave a significant mark in the development of the New Galactic Republic. While most of them were able to follow the Jedi code, some did fall to the Archdevils' influence.

Many of the humans who traveled among the exodus from the Triangulum Galaxy to the planet Kobol in the Milky Way Galaxy in 160,000 BCE were very distant descendants of Anakin Skywalker. By the time humans permanently settled on Kobol, all of them could be said to share Anakin Skywalker as an ancestor, although almost none of them possessed his special abilities.
