  • The Great Old Ones enter the universe, bringing fear and terror to mortals. Many go mad and start worshiping them. (Cthulhu Mythos)

  • Earth's Solar System is formed from a cloud of gas and dust. A group of eldila arrives on Earth, gives it the name Thulcandra, and embed it with psychic matter so that sapient life can evolve. In later times, they will be remembered as the Elder Gods. (The Space Trilogy)
  • Some Elder Gods create the Ogdru Jahad from fire and mud, but it revolts against them and gives birth to the Ogdru Hem. The Elder Gods imprison it inside golden cocoons using the Right Hand of Doom. (Hellboy)

  • The Elder Gods battle and imprison the Great Old Ones. R'lyeh sinks below the ocean depths. (Cthulhu Mythos)

  • Several Elder Gods led by Set join the side of the Archdevils and fight against those who are loyal to the Elder Council. The battle between the two forces wipes out the Serpent People's civilization and causes the Permian extinction event.   • A civil war is fought among the Coruscant-based interstellar civilization in the Triangulum Galaxy. An Elder Council-aligned race records the events in the Journal of the Whills. (Star Wars)

  • Elves (Homo alfus) and dwarves (Homo nanus) evolve from Homo erectus in eastern Asia.

  • Several eldila lead a fleet of humans from the Triangulum Galaxy to the planet Kobol in the Milky Way Galaxy. The colonists' descendants start worshiping them as gods. (Battlestar Galactica)

  • A fleet carrying Kobolans and renegade humanoid Cylons, survivors of a devastating war in a distant star system, arrive on Earth. The human-Cylon hybrid Hera Agathon becomes the "Mitochondrial Eve" to humans in the Information Age. (Battlestar Galactica)

  • Two Trees are created by the Vala Yavanna to replace the Lamps. Their light resembles that of the Sun and the Moon. (The Silmarilion)

  • The Vala Oromë discovers three advanced tribes of elves in East Asia. He makes them ageless and invites them to live in Aman. (The Silmarilion)

  • Melkor destroys the Two Trees. Varda destroys the clouds covering Earth so that the Sun and the Moon are visible. (The Silmarilion)

  • The half-elf Earendil travels to Aman, where he convinces the Valar to free Eurasia from Melkor's rule. (The Silmarilion)
  • With the help of the Valar, several humans establish a civilization on the island of Númenor in the Atlantic Ocean. Its first rule is Elros, son of Earendil. (The Silmarilion)

23,500 BCE

  • Guided by Melkor's apprentice Sauron, the fleets of Númenor attack Aman. The Valar react by sinking it beneath the ocean. Survivors travel to Eurasia where they establish the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor. Aman is transported to the demiplane known as the Otherworld. (The Silmarillion)

  • The War of the Rings is fought over much of Eurasia. Humans and elves, aided by the Maia wizard Gandalf, successfully defeat Sauron. (The Lord of the Rings)

  • The vast majority of non-human sapients in Eurasia migrate to the Otherworld. Elves settle in the realm of Alfheim, dwarves in Nidavellir, orcs in Svartalfheim, and Frost Giants in Jotunheim. (Norse mythology)
  • The Serpent People refuse to migrate, putting them at odds with the growing human empire. (Cthulhu Mythos)
  • Númenor rises out of the Atlantic. Humans from Gondor colonize the island, renaming it Atlantis, and form an independent empire. (Conan the Barbarian)

  • The GodWave hits Earth, transforming many humans with the Nephilite spiritual strain into the Younger Gods, a race of immortals with godlike powers. (DC Comics)
  • One group of Younger Gods, led by Buri, travels to the Otherworld and founds the kingdom of Asgard. They refer to the Valar as the Vanir. (Norse mythology)

  • Powerful magical energies on Atlantis leads to the emergence of the human subspecies Homo sapiens magi. (DC Comics)

  • Atlantean warrior Kull is banished from his homeland and travels to Valusia, where he becomes king. (King Kull)

  • A group of parasitic beings known as the Goau'ld, led by System Lord Ra, invade Earth. Some humans are taken to other planets, including Thanagar and Krypton. (Stargate, DC Comics)
  • On one Goau'ld colonized planet, lion-turtles give humans the power of bending so that they can rebel against their masters. (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

  • Conan, born in Cimmeria, has many adventures in western Eurasia. He eventually becomes King of Aquilonia (Conan the Barbarian).

  • Ouranos, a giant affected by the GodWave, marries Gaea and becomes father to the Titans, the multi-armed Hekatonkheires, and the one-eyed Cyclopes. Considering them mounstrous, Ouranos sends the Hekatonkheiries and Cyclopes to the hell plane Tartarus.

9600 BCE

  • The Younger Gods split into two factions, the Lords of Law and the Lords of Chaos. Their battles eventually cause the Great Cataclysm, forever altering Earth's geography. (Michael Moorcock, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

  • The Arisians begin breeding humans to produce great leaders and warriors. (Lensmen)

8000 BCE

  • Nada, ruler of an African village, falls in love with Dream but then rejects him. He condemns her to a hell plane. (Sandman)

  • Rama, prince of Ayodha, goes to the island of Lanka to retrieve his kidnapped wife, Sita. He is accompanied by his brother, Lakshman, and Hanuman, leader of a tribe of mangani. (Hindu mythology)

  • The Titans, led by Cronus, overthrow their father. They begin ruling over much of Europe. Cronus decides to devour his own offspring so that he doesn't follow his father's fate. (Greek mythology)
  • The Elder Council names a young boy “Shazam” and gives him magical abilities so that he can fight the Archdevils’ forces on Earth. (DC Comics)

6500 BCE

  • The sea-dwelling species Homo mermanus is created by the Arisians. Many of its members settle in the sunken city of Atlantis. (Marvel Comics)

3300 BCE

  • Thoth shares some of his knowledge with Egyptian priests. He later becomes known in Europe as Hermes Trismegistus. (Egyptian mythology, Hermetic legend)

  • Zeus, son of Cronus, frees his siblings and fights against the Titans in the battle known as the the Titanomachy. Once the Titans are defeated, Cronus's offspring establish a home on Mount Olympus in the Otherworld. (Greek mythology)

  • In central America, the Mayan Long Count calendar begins. (Real life)

3072 BCE

  • The Kali Yuga ("Age of Strife") begins. Entire galactic civilizations have fallen apart, allowing primitive cultures on isolated planets to develop. (Hindu mythology)
  • Indian sage Krishna dies in the battle of Kurukshetra. His teachings to warrior-hero Arjuna are recorded as the Bhagavad-Gita. (The Mahabharata)

  • Construction on the Great Tower of Babel in Mesopotamia begins. It is halted when an eldil assigned to Earth causes its workers to speak in different languages. (The Bible)

  • Mr. Am, a wise Arisian and agent of the Elder Council, arrives to help mortal humans fight against the Archdevils' clients. He founds a number of monasteries to train people in the esoteric arts. (The Jewel in the Crown )

  • Egyptian warrior En Sahab Nur discovers that he is immortal and becomes worshipped as a god. His progeny are known as Clan Akkaba. (Marvel Comics)

2770 BCE

  • Tammuz (or Dumuzi), son of the god Enki, lives as a shepherd until he is slain by vicious demons. His lover Inanna travels to the Underworld to retrieve him. (Sumerian mythlogy)

2720 BCE

  • Gilgamesh, King of Uruk, and his friend Enkidu fight the Hubaba in the nearby Cedar Forest. After Enkidu dies, Gilgamesh goes in a search of a plant said to give immortality. (Epic of Gilgamesh)

  • Huang Di becomes the first Emperor of China and fights back an invasion of the Mirror People. (Chinese mythology)

  • Pharaoh Khafre is buried in one of the Great Pyramids of Giza with the mystic Blue Scarab gem, which enables him to come back as an undead being. (DC Comics)

  • Vandal Savage, now a tribal chief, has Stonehenge built in Salisbury Plain as a lens over an area of wild magic. (DC Comics)

  • A colony of Homo mermanus establishes the city of Shayeris in a trench between Greenland and Labrador. (DC Comics)

  • Abram of Ur changes his name to Abraham and leads a band of Hebrews to the promised land of Canaan. (The Bible)

  • A group of fae known as the Tuatha de Danaan migrates to the British Isles and intermarries with the locals. (Celtic mythology)

1780 BCE

  • Prince Imhotep is buried alive for sacrilege against the pharaoh. Placed with him is the Scroll of Thoth, which can be used to raise the dead. (The Mummy)

  • Odin, Vili, and Ve, sons of King Borr of Asgard, defeat Ymir, ruler of Jotunheim. The Nordic Bronze Age begins. (Norse mythology)

  • Egypt conquers Canaan. One group of Hebrews and Canaanites, led by Danaus, migrates to Greece. (Real life, Greek mythology)

  • Teth-Adam, a pupil of Shazam, arranges a treaty between Egypt and the Hittites. (DC Comics)

  • The Trojan War begins when the Achaeans of Greece respond to Paris of Troy taking away Helen, wife of King Menelaus of Sparta. (Greek mythology)

  • Sidhartha Guatama achieves enlightenment after sitting under a bodhi tree for forty days and becomes the Buddha. (Buddhist legend)

  • Ayesha is born in Africa. She later becomes the immortal queen of Kor. (Ayesha)

  • Alexander of Macedon begins creating a vast empire that spreads from Greece to India. He is helped by an alliance with Thalestris, queen of the Amazons. (Alexander legend)

  • A group of adventurers, accompanied by the writer Lucian, travel to the Moon by a magical wind. (True History)

  • To avoid execution by Emperor Commodus, General Maximus Decimus Meridius becomes a gladiator. (Gladiator)

  • Roman occupation ends in the British Isles. Vortigern, a descendant of Emperor Constantine, becomes the first post-Roman King of Britain. (Medieval legend)

  • German warrior Sigurd kills the dragon Fafnir with his father's once-broken sword Gram. Shortly after, he falls for the shield-maiden Brünnhilde. (Norse mythology)

  • Galahad, son of Lancelot du Lac and Elaine of Carbonek, is born. He is brought up by an abbess in a nunnery. (Arthurian legend)

  • Arthur, illegitimate son of Uther Pendragon, becomes King of Britain. He is given the ancient sword Andúril, now known as Excalibur, by Vivianne, the Lady of the Lake. Knights from across Christian Europe are invited to join his Round Table. (Arthurian legend)

  • Cormac mac Art leads a band of Vikings on a series of exploits in Britain. (Tigers of the Sea)

  • Clovis, a descendant of Jesus, conquers Gaul and establishes an alliance with the Catholic Church. (Real life, The Da Vinci Code)

  • Sir Percival, Sir Bors, and Sir Galahad find the Holy Grail at Carbonek Castle. They are not permitted to take it back to Camelot. (Arthurian legend)

  • Beowulf, nephew of King Hygelac of Götland, slays Grendel, a descendent of Kane. (Beowulf)

  • King Arthur is killed at Camlann in a battle against his illegitimate Sir Mordred. His body is taken to the island of Avalon. Excalibur is returned to Viviane. (Arthurian legend)
  • Bion, now female again and calling herself Vita, battles Viviane and retrieves Excalibur, which she renames Durendal. (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

  • Amleth, son of the Jutish king Horvendil, discovers that his father was murdered by his uncle Feng. He succeeds in avenging his father's death, but dies from drinking a poisoned cup. (Danish legend, Hamlet)
